As you can define new compression algorithms for stream compression, you 
can define them for TLS as well. Compression in TLS is modular as well. 
E.g. there is not only zlib (RFC 3749) but also LZO/LZS (RFC 3943). 
Other compression algorithms, even algorithms specialized for XML 
compression, can be added to TLS as well.
