Fabio Forno has found some good results with SIFT on a mobile phone:

Perhaps what we need to do is define the base SIFT spec as a very simple
method for blocking inbound stanzas by type (ask the server to intercept
any combination of message, presence, and IQ stanzas) and then define
add-ons to SIFT for the more advanced filtering rules (either based on
element name + namespace as in the current proposal or based on fancier
rules like XPath matching).
