This project will reduce metadata exposure and enable decentralized, serverless communication. Work will focus on end-to-end encryption specs for roster (contact list) information. These changes will be implemented in the Libervia ecosystem through [Tor](https://www.torproject.org/) integration, which will help anonymize connections and reduce IP tracking. A second focus area is advancing serverless communication by implementing the RELOAD protocol [XEP-0415](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0415.html) and leveraging end-to-end authentication via [XEP-0416](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0416.html) and [XEP-0417](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0417.html). This project will strengthen XMPP and Libervia’s privacy and availability, enabling their use in environments where servers may be unavailable or inaccessible. - [Monocles](https://monocles.eu/) has released versions [2.0.8](https://codeberg.org/monocles/monocles_chat/releases/tag/CodebergRel…, [2.0.9](https://codeberg.org/monocles/monocles_chat/releases/tag/CodebergRel…, [2.0.10](https://codeberg.org/monocles/monocles_chat/releases/tag/CodebergRe… and [2.0.11](https://codeberg.org/monocles/monocles_chat/releases/tag/CodebergRe… of its chat client for Android, featuring many new functions and fixes. - [Prose](https://prose.org/) has released versions [0.10.2](https://github.com/prose-im/prose-app-web/releases/tag/0.10.2) and [0.11.0](https://github.com/prose-im/prose-app-web/releases/tag/0.11.0) of its web frontend [prose-web-app](https://github.com/prose-im/prose-app-web). Extensions and specifications https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#extensions-and-spec… The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/) in addition to [XMPP RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/). Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html), which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/). Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/) ([online archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)) Proposed https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#proposed The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/). Within two weeks, the [Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council) decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - [Data Policy](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/data_policy.html) - This document specifies metadata on how an entity handles its data (encryption, data retention, etc). - [Data Forms File Input Element](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/data-form-file-element.html) - This specification defines an element which can be used with data forms to let users upload one or more files. New https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#new - No New XEPs this month. Deferred https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#deferred If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#updated - Version 0.1.4 of [XEP-0284](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0284.html) (Shared XML Editing) - Fix the registrar section. - Format the glossary better. - Add missing <state/> wrappers in examples. - Write an XML Schema. (gdk) - Version 0.1.1 of [XEP-0498](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0498.html) (Pubsub File Sharing) - Fix wrong shortname and add tags. (jp) Last Call https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#last-call Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council) decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/) issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#stable - No XEPs moved to Stable this month. Deprecated https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#deprecated - No XEPs deprecated this month.
