Hi, Polarian, I think declaring the account lost was premature. An expired certificate suggests a missed renewal, not necessarily an abandoned server, and some public records seem to point the other way: WHOIS suggests the domain was renewed recently, its DNS appears to have been edited in July, and it seems to have working email with a paid provider. That looks more like a lapsed certificate on a recently paid-for domain, than an abandoned one. Persmule, it's probably worth trying to reach the admin first, for instance via a standard address like postmaster@jabber.cat or admin@jabber.cat. The contact details in WHOIS are redacted, but the registrar (INWX) may be willing to forward a message to the domain holder. And if anyone on this list knows who runs jabber.cat, a direct nudge is probably the quickest route to a fix. If that gets no response in the coming weeks, moving to a well-rated provider from providers.xmpp.net is good advice. Kind regards, Guus On Mon, Oct 12, 2026 at 5:56 PM Polarian <polarian@polarian.dev> wrote:
Good afternoon,
The certificate of jabber.cat is expired after 10-02-2026 , and because of this, most servers refuses to connect to jabber.cat , making my account on this server losing contact :-( Does its administrator have any plan to renew it?
I did look into this briefly now, I am not sure who ran the server however.
The server is still indeed up to my surprise, but it does look abandoned. Taking a look at its provider entry [1], there is little to no information provided, and it is not reported to support signup.
I think its safe to say your account is lost. Please be aware, there is usually no guarantees provided by public providers, due to the fact the majority of them are provided free of charge at someone elses expense. An A or B tier provided from the providers list [2] should be reliable and at the very least, warn you if they are suspending their services, however again, no guarantees can be made unfortunately.
If you want full control and to be sure the host will not just disappear, please look into paying for managed hosting [3][4].
You can also look into hosting your own XMPP server if you have the ability to host one. Snikket can be deployed on a cheap vps, or you can run an XMPP server yourself. I am happy to provide support potentially for a fee depending on how much help is required (feel free to message me on XMPP).
I am sorry for the loss of your account.
