No, not in terms of active users GTalk and Facebook have well outpaced
them.

The statistics where they claim to have the most users 1) include all the
accounts nobody uses anymore, and/or 2) do not consider Facebook or GTalk
"IM".

If you want to twist statistics around and include Facebook (even though
they don't support federation and their XMPP service is half-assed, ie, no
iq stanzas passed between users except for those they specifically process)
XMPP is clearly the largest IM network in the world.

As for Facebook, really for me that's a bitter victory.

Not a victory at all. The only benefit is it encourages XMPP software
development and deployment. I predict they will not implement proper XMPP
or federation until they've been replaced, like AOL has, and are scrambling
to hold on to market share.
