Articles https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#articles - [Automating the automatable](https://providers.xmpp.net/blog/2023-11-22-xmpp-providers-auto…: During the past year, the team behind the [XMPP Providers project](https://providers.xmpp.net/) worked on automating the process of gathering data about XMPP providers. Automating this process reduces manual work significantly (for example, checking websites by hand, verifying information, listing sources, etc.) and helps to sustain the team’s efforts. Automation also enables the project to be up to date - every day! A [suite of tools](https://invent.kde.org/melvo/xmpp-providers/-/blob/master/TOOLS.md#a… has been developed since, providing the ability to query properties via XMPP and through the web. All of these tools are working together in a GitLab pipeline, which runs every night to keep the data up to date. - [Planned downtime + Happy 10th anniversary, yax.im!](https://yaxim.org/blog/2023/11/27/happy-10th-yax_im/) by Georg Lukas, discussing about the last ten years evolution of yaxim and what’s next. - [Automatic schema update in ejabberd](https://www.process-one.net/blog/automatic-schema-update-in-ejabb… by Jérôme Sautret: Previously, if you were using ejabberd with an external relational database, you might have to manually apply some schema changes that come with new features when you upgrade to a new ejabberd release. ejabberd can now handle this schema upgrade automatically. This articles discuss about this feature. - [Software is Political](https://blog.samwhited.com/2023/11/software-is-political/) by SamWhited: adapted from closing remarks of an XMPP talk at FOSSY, this article discuss about why SamWhited thinks to use as a universal standardized chat protocol is the correct choice. - [The Power of Green Coding: Erlang and Elixir Leading the Charge](https://www.erlang-solutions.com/blog/the-power-of-green-coding/) by Simon El Nahas: In the era of the green revolution, Erlang and Elixir languages are helping industries reduce server consumption and minimise environmental impact. Here are some industry examples demonstrating this. - Italian XMPP-IT Community - they have a website now: www.xmpp-it.net, a group chat: [xmpp-it@conference.xmpp-it.net](xmpp:xmpp-it@conference.xmpp-it.net?join), they also have a Git to share, create and develop software, configurations and documents concerning the XMPP protocol: git.xmpp-it.net, and finally created a wiki for documentation in Italian: wiki.xmpp-it.net. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html), which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process.html). Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing List](https://mail.jabber.org/mailman/listinfo/standards) ([online archive](https://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/)) Proposed https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#proposed The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the XMPP Editor. Within two weeks, the Council decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#new - No new XEPs this month. Deferred https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#deferred If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#updated - No XEPs updated this month. Last Call https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#last-call Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the Council decides whether the XEP seems ready, the XMPP Editor issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - [Community Code of Conduct](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0458.html) - This document describes the XMPP Standard Foundation’s Code of Conduct. This Last Call begins today and shall end at the close of business on 2023-11-30. Stable https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#stable - No XEP moved to stable this month. Deprecated https://xmpp.org/2023/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2023/#deprecated - No XEP deprecated this month.
