. Extensions and specifications
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#extensions-and-…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#new
- Version 0.1.0 of [
XEP-0507](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0507.html)
(Jingle Content Category) - Accepted as Experimental by council vote (dg) Deferred
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#updated

(Chat notification settings) - Rework the spec to use more of the Service Discovery Identities registry - Fix the XML schema - Move the <advanced/> element into the notification setting element - Bump the namespace (tm) Last Call
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable
https://xmpp.org/2025/12/the-xmpp-newsletter-november-2025/#stable

New rooms and public channels are created on a daily basis on the XMPP network. So, if you are on the look out for new and exciting public channels to join, make sure to check out the [Public Channel Search Engine](https://search.jabber.network/search) to find out groups or communities that share your interests! - If you want to list all the channels, you can find them [here](https://search.jabber.network). - If you are interested on something in particular, [look by tag](https://search.jabber.network/tags/)! - If you only want to list rooms in a particular language just add lang:xx in the search box, like in this example for the [Spanish language](https://search.jabber.network/search?q=lang%3Aes&f=y&sinaddr=on&sindescr=on&sinname=on). Just make sure to replace es for your desired language (like lang:fr, lang:de, lang:pt and so on). Spread the news

This XMPP Newsletter is produced collaboratively by the XMPP community. Each month’s newsletter issue is drafted in this [simple pad](https://pad.nixnet.services/oHnY_ZvLT8SoFyCqIC2ung). At the end of each month, the pad’s content is merged into the [XSF GitHub
repository](https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/milestone/3)
. We are always happy to welcome contributors. Do not hesitate to join the discussion in our [Comm-Team group chat (MUC)](xmpp:commteam@muc.xmpp.org?join) and thereby help us sustain this as a community effort. You have a project and want to spread the news? Please consider sharing your news or events here, and promote it to a large audience. Tasks we do on a regular basis: - gathering news in the XMPP universe - short summaries of news and events - summary of the monthly communication on extensions (XEPs) - review of the newsletter draft - preparation of media images - translations - communication via media accounts XSF Fiscal Hosting Projects

XMPP and Dutch Healthcare Chat
https://xmpp.org/2025/11/the-xmpp-newsletter-october-2025/#xmpp-and-dutch-h…
Healthcare messaging must be secure, interoperable, and compliant, yet too often relies on closed consumer platforms. In the Netherlands, the forthcoming NTA 7532 specification aims to provide a national framework for secure, auditable communication between healthcare professionals. To this effect, the XMPP Standards Foundation published the [‘Towards Secure and Interoperable Healthcare
Chat’](https://xmpp.org/2025/10/towards-secure-and-interoperable-healthcare…
open letter, in order to explain how the XMPP standard offers a proven foundation for NTA 7532, supporting vendor-independent and interoperable messaging. By engaging with initiatives like NTA 7532, the XSF promotes open, privacy-respecting communication technologies and invites collaboration with Dutch healthcare stakeholders and the global XMPP community. . Extensions and specifications
https://xmpp.org/2025/11/the-xmpp-newsletter-october-2025/#extensions-and-s…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/11/the-xmpp-newsletter-october-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - [No-reply
JIDs](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/no-reply-jids.html)
- This specification defines a way for JIDs to advertise that they don’t accept incoming chat messages. - [
Forums](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/forums.html)
- This specification describes how to implement XMPP-based discussion forums. - [Jingle Content
Category](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/jingle-content-category.html)
- This specification defines an XMPP extension to negotiate the use of Session Description Protocol (SDP) media- level attribute content as defined by [RFC
4796](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc4796)
with [Jingle RTP
sessions](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0167.html)

https://xmpp.org/2025/11/the-xmpp-newsletter-october-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - [Last

This release adds two improvements to make interop testing both stricter and easier to set up! Now you can configure the suite to treat impossible tests as failures, ensuring that a green run really means every configured test executed and passed. You can now choose from three provisioning methods: - Admin Account using [
XEP-0133](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0133.html)
(Service Administration) to create test accounts. - Explicit Test Accounts you configure up front. - In-Band Registration via [

The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)

The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)

decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP

. Extensions and specifications
https://xmpp.org/2025/09/the-xmpp-newsletter-august-2025/#extensions-and-sp…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/09/the-xmpp-newsletter-august-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New
https://xmpp.org/2025/09/the-xmpp-newsletter-august-2025/#new
- No New XEPs this month. Deferred
https://xmpp.org/2025/09/the-xmpp-newsletter-august-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated
https://xmpp.org/2025/09/the-xmpp-newsletter-august-2025/#updated
- Version 1.2.3 of [
XEP-0167](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0167.html)
(Jingle RTP Sessions) - Make ‘ssrc’ attribute ‘xs:unsignedInt’ (32-bit) instead of ‘xs:string’ to match RFC3550. (lnj) - Version 1.6.3 of [
XEP-0198](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0198.html)
(Stream Management) - Remove leftover <optional/> and <required/> children in <sm/> element. (egp) - Version 0.3.0 of [
XEP-0317](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0317.html)
(Hats) - Add hat creation and destruction flows; add hue optional parameter; add chatroom presence hats broadcast; complete disco#info; clarify how the service should broadcast updated hats; typos; standardize the form fields; (tj) - Version 1.0.4 of [
XEP-0388](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0388.html)
(Extensible SASL Profile) - Schema should use all instead of sequence (dg) - Version 0.4.0 of [
XEP-0455](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0455.html)
(Service Outage Status) - Remove leftover pubsub references, add accessibility considerations. (mp) Last Call
https://xmpp.org/2025/09/the-xmpp-newsletter-august-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

Tasks we do on a regular basis: - gathering news in the XMPP universe - short summaries of news and events - summary of the monthly communication on extensions (XEPs) - review of the newsletter draft - preparation of media images - translations - communication via media accounts XSF Fiscal Hosting Projects

e.V.](https://fosstodon.org/@Gentoo_eV)
and [
TroLUG](https://fosstodon.org/@TroLUG)
will offer a rich and varied 2-day program on various topics, including the [

distributions and free software for smartphones. XMPP will play a special role. Short presentations, [demos](https://blog.dohdom.de/elektronik-projekte) and workshops will encourage visitors to join in. There will also be plenty of time for spontaneous topics and social interaction. (Shh! Don’t tell anyone! … but you can take a look at all the nitty gritty details in [here](https://trolug.pads.ccc.de/2025-07?)) And, of course: make sure to come by the [XMPP

. Extensions and specifications
https://xmpp.org/2025/08/the-xmpp-newsletter-july-2025/#extensions-and-spec…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/08/the-xmpp-newsletter-july-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New
https://xmpp.org/2025/08/the-xmpp-newsletter-july-2025/#new
- Version 0.1.0 of [
XEP-0504](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0504.html)
(Data Policy) - Accepted as Experimental by Council vote on 2025-06-08 (XEP Editor: dg) - Version 0.1.0 of [

https://xmpp.org/2025/08/the-xmpp-newsletter-july-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated
https://xmpp.org/2025/08/the-xmpp-newsletter-july-2025/#updated
- Version 1.10.0 of [
XEP-0080](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0080.html)
(User Location) - Added <regioncode/> element. (jp) - Version 1.2.0 of [

https://xmpp.org/2025/08/the-xmpp-newsletter-july-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

Tasks we do on a regular basis: - gathering news in the XMPP universe - short summaries of news and events - summary of the monthly communication on extensions (XEPs) - review of the newsletter draft - preparation of media images - translations - communication via media accounts XSF Fiscal Hosting Projects

https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#extensions-and-spec…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - [Data
Policy](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/data_policy.html)
- This document specifies metadata on how an entity handles its data (encryption, data retention, etc). - [Data Forms File Input
Element](https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/data-form-file-element.html)
- This specification defines an element which can be used with data forms to let users upload one or more files. New
https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#new
- No New XEPs this month. Deferred
https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated
https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#updated
- Version 0.1.4 of [
XEP-0284](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0284.html)
(Shared XML Editing) - Fix the registrar section. - Format the glossary better. - Add missing <state/> wrappers in examples. - Write an XML Schema. (egp) - Version 0.9.0 of [
XEP-0384](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0384.html)

XEP-0388](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0388.html)
(Extensible SASL Profile) - Add missing minOccurs=‘0’ to additional-data in <continue/> in XML schema. (lnj) - Version 0.1.1 of [
XEP-0485](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0485.html)
(PubSub Server Information) - Fixed references to XEP identifier. (gdk) - Version 0.1.1 of [
XEP-0498](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0498.html)
(Pubsub File Sharing) - Fix wrong shortname and add tags. (jp) Last Call
https://xmpp.org/2025/07/the-xmpp-newsletter-june-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

Do not hesitate to join the discussion in our Comm-Team group chat (MUC) and thereby help us sustain this as a community effort. You have a project and want to spread the news? Please consider sharing your news or events here, and promote it to a large audience. Tasks we do on a regular basis: - gathering news in the XMPP universe - short summaries of news and events - summary of the monthly communication on extensions (XEPs) - review of the newsletter draft - preparation of media images - translations - communication via media accounts XSF Fiscal Hosting Projects

https://xmpp.org/2025/06/the-xmpp-newsletter-may-2025/#extensions-and-speci…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/postorius/lists/standards.xmpp.org/)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/hyperkitty/list/standards@xmpp.org/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/06/the-xmpp-newsletter-may-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New

- No New XEPs this month. Deferred
https://xmpp.org/2025/06/the-xmpp-newsletter-may-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated

- No XEPs updated this month. Last Call
https://xmpp.org/2025/06/the-xmpp-newsletter-may-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

- [
Cheogram](https://cheogram.com/)
has released version [2.17.10-1](https://git.sr.ht/~singpolyma/cheogram-android/refs/2.17.10-1) for Android. This version introduces an initial implementation of Spaces ([
XEP-503](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0503.html)
), among other improvements, bugfixes and more! - [Conversations](https://conversations.im/) has released versions [
2.18.0](https://codeberg.org/iNPUTmice/Conversations/releases/tag/2.18.0)
, [
2.18.1](https://codeberg.org/iNPUTmice/Conversations/releases/tag/2.18.1)
and [
2.18.2](https://codeberg.org/iNPUTmice/Conversations/releases/tag/2.18.2)
for Android. Notable changes include the ability to pick a custom backup location, a prominent backup restore option for [Quicksy](https://quicksy.im/), and improved support for more kinds of URIs. The latter includes tel phone numbers, mailto email addresses, and more interestingly the web+ap scheme for ActivityPub proposed by [Fedi
Links](https://fedilinks.org/)
. - [Dino](https://dino.im/) has released version [
0.5](https://github.com/dino/dino/releases/tag/v0.5.0)
featuring OMEMO encryption by default, improved file transfers, image preview and other file details before downloading, and two completely reworked dialogs. See the release [blog post](https://dino.im/blog/2025/04/dino-0.5-release/) for all the details. - At the same time, Dino has also [received funding](https://nlnet.nl/news/2025/20250422-announcement-grants-CommonsFund.html) from [NLnet](https://nlnet.nl) to begin development on a slew of new features. This includes message moderation in group chats, local message deletion, modern connection handling with FAST and SASL2, more formatting options with Message Markup, and more! [Visit the project page](https://nlnet.nl/project/Dino-UX/) for all the details. - [
Gajim](https://gajim.org/)
has released versions [
2.1.0](https://gajim.org/post/2025-04-08-gajim-2.1.0-released/)
and [
2.1.1](https://gajim.org/post/2025-04-17-gajim-2.1.1-released/)
with a new ‘Activity feed’ page, layout improvements for its ‘Start Chat’ dialog and support for ‘Message Display Synchronisation’ ([
XEP-0490](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0490.html)
) across group chats among other improvements and bugfixes. Head over to their [
News](https://gajim.org/post/)
section for all the details. Activity feed in Gajim 2.1 Account and status selection in Gajim 2.1 - [Kaidan](https://www.kaidan.im/) has received [NLnet](https://nlnet.nl) funding for [various improvement across the board](https://nlnet.nl/project/Kaidan-MUC/), most notably multi-user chat and support for legacy OMEMO. The second point is significant because while Kaidan is using a newer version of the OMEMO end-to-end encryption protocol, other popular clients including Conversations, Monal, and Dino are still using an older version. Since the two are not compatible, this meant Kaidan users were unable to use OMEMO encryption with users of most other clients. By implementing the older spec as well, Kaidan will help bridge that gap. - [Monocles Chat
2.0.6](https://codeberg.org/monocles/monocles_chat/releases/tag/CodebergRel…
has been released for Android. This version brings initial support for file captions, the option to pin an unencrypted message to the top of a conversation, providers list support, and the option to register on your own XMPP server, among many other new features and improvements. Monocles Chat 2.0.6: Initial captions to files and pin message to the top Monocles Chat 2.0.6: Register on your own XMPP server or pick one from the providers list - [Movim](https://movim.eu/) has released version [0.30](https://mov.im/community/pubsub.movim.eu/Movim/good-news-everyone-movim-0-30-encke-is-there-xMvYPr) (code named “[Encke](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_Encke)”), the biggest Movim evolution in many years! This release brings [multi-participant calls](https://movim.eu/#visio), reactions being displayed in the detailed message view, support for Unicode 15.1 with plenty of new emojis to use, and avatars that change when a contact adds to their [Story](https://movim.eu/#stories). Movim 0.30 (Encke): Multi Participant Calls. Bob Cat looking disgruntled by the presence of the ‘Hooman’ on the lower right of the screen! Movim 0.30 (Encke): Meow OwO bedazzled by the looks of Multi Participant Calls on his mobile device! - and following right on its heels, [Movim](https://movim.eu/) also published its first bug-fix release: version [0.30.1](https://mov.im/community/pubsub.movim.eu/Movim/here-comes-the-new-movim-release-encke-0-30-1-ckTLY4), adding animated pictures support in the image proxy and a new Avatar and Banner Configuration Panel, as well as implementing ([

) Consistent Color Generation, among many other improvements and bugfixes. Make sure to check out the official announcements at the [Movim Blog](https://mov.im/community/pubsub.movim.eu/Movim) for all the details! - [

The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP

in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. https://xmpp.org/2025/05/the-xmpp-newsletter-april-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New

https://xmpp.org/2025/05/the-xmpp-newsletter-april-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

https://xmpp.org/2025/04/the-xmpp-newsletter-march-2025/#extensions-and-spe…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/mailman/listinfo/standards)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/04/the-xmpp-newsletter-march-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - No XEPs proposed this month. New
https://xmpp.org/2025/04/the-xmpp-newsletter-march-2025/#new
- Version 0.1.0 of [
XEP-0503](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0503.html)
(Server-side spaces). - Promoted to Experimental (XEP Editor: dg) Deferred
https://xmpp.org/2025/04/the-xmpp-newsletter-march-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated

- No XEPs updated this month. Last Call
https://xmpp.org/2025/04/the-xmpp-newsletter-march-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

- No XEPs moved to Stable this month. Deprecated

XMPP at FOSDEM 2025
https://xmpp.org/2025/03/the-xmpp-newsletter-february-2025/#xmpp-at-fosdem-…
During February 1st and 2nd, the [XSF](https://xmpp.org) was present at [FOSDEM
25](https://fosdem.org/2025/)
in Brussels, Belgium. The XMPP community took part of the Realtime Lounge, a corner located on the 2nd floor of the K building, where several open source projects around [Real Time Communication (
RTC)](https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/rtc/
) can present themselves. We are pleased to say that there was a lot of interaction at the XMPP booth! A rather large number of FOSDEM visitors had the opportunity to come say “Hi!”, meet, interact, talk and have interesting conversations with many of the developers of the most popular clients, servers, tools and libraries that power the whole XMPP ecosystem and bring it to life. In addition to the activities that took place on the XMPP booth, [Jérôme Poisson (
Goffi)](https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/speaker/jerome_poisson_goffi/
) hosted a most interesting presentation in the [Real Time Communication (
RTC)](https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/track/rtc/

https://xmpp.org/2025/03/the-xmpp-newsletter-february-2025/#extensions-and-…
The XMPP Standards Foundation develops extensions to XMPP in its [XEP
series](https://xmpp.org/extensions/)
in addition to [XMPP
RFCs](https://xmpp.org/rfcs/)
. Developers and other standards experts from around the world collaborate on these extensions, developing new specifications for emerging practices, and refining existing ways of doing things. Proposed by anybody, the particularly successful ones end up as Final or Active - depending on their type - while others are carefully archived as Deferred. This life cycle is described in [
XEP-0001](https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html)
, which contains the formal and canonical definitions for the types, states, and processes. [Read more about the standards
process](https://xmpp.org/about/standards-process/)
. Communication around Standards and Extensions happens in the [Standards Mailing
List](https://mail.jabber.org/mailman/listinfo/standards)
([online
archive](https://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/)
). Proposed
https://xmpp.org/2025/03/the-xmpp-newsletter-february-2025/#proposed
The XEP development process starts by writing up an idea and submitting it to the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
. Within two weeks, the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether to accept this proposal as an Experimental XEP. - [Server-side

- This document defines an XMPP protocol to cluster several groupchat rooms together. New
https://xmpp.org/2025/03/the-xmpp-newsletter-february-2025/#new
- No new XEPs this month. Deferred
https://xmpp.org/2025/03/the-xmpp-newsletter-february-2025/#deferred
If an experimental XEP is not updated for more than twelve months, it will be moved off Experimental to Deferred. If there is another update, it will put the XEP back onto Experimental. - No XEPs deferred this month. Updated

- No XEPs updated this month. Last Call
https://xmpp.org/2025/03/the-xmpp-newsletter-february-2025/#last-call
Last calls are issued once everyone seems satisfied with the current XEP status. After the [
Council](https://xmpp.org/about/xmpp-standards-foundation/#council)
decides whether the XEP seems ready, the [XMPP
Editor](https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team/)
issues a Last Call for comments. The feedback gathered during the Last Call can help improve the XEP before returning it to the Council for advancement to Stable. - No Last Call this month. Stable

Tasks we do on a regular basis: - gathering news in the XMPP universe - short summaries of news and events - summary of the monthly communication on extensions (XEPs) - review of the newsletter draft - preparation of media images - translations - communication via media accounts Unsubscribe from the XMPP Newsletter
