Wow, you certainly have been active!
Let's track down some reading materials for the other participants so
that they can ask intelligent questions next week -- I doubt that
regular XMPP folks know about all of these different standards groups.

Peter,
I would like to participate in Summit 12 via Google hangouts.
Please add me to the list!
The follow are a few updates on current activities and events:
I will be speaking at the Advanced Energy Conference 2012 in New York City
on October 30 & 31
on "XMPP for the Smart Grid". The talk is at 9 AM on the 31st. The topic
will focus on the new
ISO/IEC/IEEE 21451-1-4 Smart Transducer Interface Standard for Sensors
Actuators, and Devices using eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol
(XMPP) for Networked Devices.
http://www.aertc.org/conference2012/
Also keep up on the launch of
IPDX.NET which utilizes XMPP for M2M
communications with sensors actuators and networks devices using a Service
Orient Architecture (SOA) and Federated Cloud Computer architecture. IPDX
(IP Data Exchange) now provides XMPP support for Android devices and shortly
for Apple and Microsoft. Interested parties should contact me you wish to
use
IPDX.NET. For further information go to our web site at
http://www.mact-usa.com
"XMPP for the Smart Grid" was also recently discussed at the IEEE
International Conference on Smart Grid Engineering at the University of
Ontario Institute of technology. "Attendees were on hand for the US,
Canada, Japan, China, Egypt, India, and the EU. It was announced a
formation of a Smart Grid Collaborative Research Network (SG-CRN) that will
utilize
IPDX.NET to tie together research facilities via XMPP.
IPDX.NET to offer alerts and remote sensor monitoring to feed the DHS UICDS
(Unified Incident Command and Decision Support) system. This is a
nationwide effort in support of first responders including fire, police,
emergency personnel. Support will include XMPP access to Smart Devices
such as cellphones, tablet pc's, etc. All devices, users, and applications
will use XMPP to provide secure end-to-end communications and data sharing
using XMPP.
IEEE P1451.1.4 (now known as ISO/IEC/IEEE 21451-1-4) will launch public
discuss on Nov. 27th and interested parties may participate by sending an
e-mail to me (mact-usa(a)att.net) or Dr. Kang Lee (kang.lee(a)nist.gov) at NIST
and chairman of IEEE TC-9 Sensor Technology.
ISO/IEC/IEEE 21451-1-4 is now under consideration by ISO JTC1 SC31 as a
common protocol for use in the cargo shipping
industry. It is also a consideration by ISO JTC1 will make a decision on
a new group for the Internet of Things (IoT) of
which XMPP is a considerations as a common protocol.
ISA 100.200 was introduced to ISO/IEC/IEEE 21451-1-4 and XMPP at the ISA100
face-to-face meeting in Orlando, FL and now is a consideration as part of
standard work for Common Network management (CNM) in ISA100.20 for use in
industrial plants. Please contact me if you are interested in participation
in these discussions.
If you have any questions please contact me. Regards,

Please read for IOT-related topics -- we're planning to discuss these on
Friday, October 26. Remote participation is welcome and I'm really hoping we
can kick off some good discussion about XMPP and IOT. Please let me know if
you're planning to participate remotely and we'll add you to the wiki page:

Folks, here is a rough agenda for XMPP Summit 12 next week in Portland.
Please provide feedback, let me know if you want to lead a discussion, speak
up if you think other topics are more important, etc.
We plan to use Google Hangouts for remote participation (hey, it's based on
XMPP), so please make sure you can use that if you want to give a
presentation or join in from places other than Portland. I am
*not* planning to get A/V equipment for the room.
(All times are local = Pacific Standard Time = UTC-08:00, note that daylight
saving time ends on November 1 in the USA!)
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25
09:00 Overview, logistics, agenda bashing
09:10 Introductions / topics of interest
09:30 Lightning talks: "what I'm doing with XMPP" (10-15 minutes each)
10:30 Break
10:45 [TBD] *
12:00 Lunch
13:00 HTTP bindings: BOSH, WebSocket, XMPP, and you
15:00 Break
15:15 HTTP bindings: summary and next steps
15:30 [TBD] *
17:00 End of Day 1
19:00 XSF dinner, location to be determined
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26
09:00 XMPP and the Internet of Things
10:30 Break
10:45 XMPP and IOT (continued)
12:00 Lunch
13:00 [TBD] *
15:00 End of Day 2
I'd really like input from folks here about the "TBD" topics. There are
things I'd like to talk about, but I want to make sure we cover the topics
that XMPP developers and operators think are high priorities.
Peter
